Huon pine was logged in Macquarie Harbour and up the Gordon River until 1964 when cutting of the timber was prohibited. All craft timber is now issued from the stockpiles gathered from flooded valleys and from timber on the forest floor cut and left many years ago. A past teacher and a regular guest, Kevin Rayner, often visits Strahan to purchase his huon pine and then makes these amazing bowls to sell at Salamanca Market.
